International Women’s Day (March 8th) gives us a chance to celebrate the female powerhouses within the LABS community. Their hard work and passion for what they do have brought them to this point in their careers – female founders who continue to push the boundaries and inspire others to do the same.

Annie Morris is the Co-Founder of the well-known breakfast brand, Spoon Cereals. Ahead of Annie’s event, Spoon Meets: A Female Founder Panel, coming to LABS this week as part of International Women’s Day – we chat about her success, her influences, and the best thing about being a female founder in 12 quick fire questions.

  1. Please describe your business in one sentence. Spoon is on a mission to make breakfast better: healthier, tastier, simpler and more exciting.

  1. What was your first job? I worked as a waitress.

  1. What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received? Don’t sweat the small stuff.

  1. What does ‘success’ mean to you? Doing something that scares you every day.

  1. What inspires you to get out of bed every morning? Going to bed with a plan in place for the following morning or having a morning ritual is a great way to feel motivated. Simple things like deciding what I’m going to have for breakfast the night before saves time and puts me in a good mood at the start of the day.

  1. How do you manage stress? I try to stay conscious of how I am feeling. Exercising, eating well and scheduling in ‘me time’ really helps.

  1. What do you look for in employees? As a small company, we look for employees with an entrepreneurial spirit and people who can add value to our company and brand mission.

  1. Give us your number one tip for how to be successful in an interview. Do your research and ask lots of questions. (That’s two tips, but both are important!)

  1. In your opinion, who’s a girl boss that’s killing it right now? We’ve just hired two new ‘girl bosses’ onto our team who are going to help us take Spoon to the next level. Really excited to have them on board.

  1. What’s the best thing about being a female founder? Helping to fill the gap of female leaders.

  1. What advice would you give to aspiring female founders? Start when you don’t feel ready.

  1. As women, how can we support each other to achieve our goals? Be genuine and offer help where you can. In most cases, this will lead to better friendships and exciting opportunities.
