Today we’ve unveiled our transformation of Victoria House, situated in the heart of London’s Knowledge Quarter, into a workplace fit for the future.
Setting new standards in design with this latest evolution of the Grade-II listed building, LABS, in partnership with architect Hutchinson & Partners, has delivered a new, modern layer to the space, which also creates a sensitive and harmonious bridge between the original 1920s neoclassical design and a contemporary renovation from the early 2000s by Will Alsop.
It’s a renovation and refurbishment that respects and compliments the timeless architecture of this historical landmark.
This new iteration of Victoria House now provides 150,000 sq ft of contemporary, flexible workspace with meeting rooms, kitchens and breakout areas, as well as a exceptional set of amenities.
More than 8,000 sq ft of communal space is spread across three member suites. The Alsop Suite and The Long Suite provide spaces for members to meet with clients, or collaborate and unwind between themselves, while The Heritage Suite contains a state-of-the-art gym, multi-use studio alongside a lecture room, boardroom and meeting room suite.
Furthermore, to accommodate the anticipated increase in those walking and cycling to work, Victoria House also offers members extensive shower and changing facilities, as well as an abundance of bike storage.
Additionally, an events space that includes the well-preserved Art Deco masterpiece, known locally as the Bloomsbury Ballroom, sits at the lower ground level.
Throughout Victoria House a muted palette using natural materials such as Italian travertine, terrazzo, bronze and brass has been implemented, while oak dividers and an eclectic mix of textiles, including sheepskin and linen, give warming touches and add extra layers of texture.
Greenery and period touches, including Victorian drawings, oil pots and vases, as well as a carefully curated collection of vintage and bespoke lamps, further enrich the environment and create moments of interest.
From summer, LABS at Victoria House will open Victoria House’s outdoor roof terrace with views over the West End and a contemporary bar within its grand public lobby, serving Italian coffee and aperitivi culture to the neighbourhood.
Surrounded by cultural and academic institutions, including the British Museum and University College London, and an eclectic mix of retail, bars and restaurants in Bloomsbury. It is also within a 15 minute walk of King’s Cross to the North or Farringdon to the East and Oxford Circus to the West. Dedicated cycle routes also connect all these locations and further afield.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to see Victoria House come to life as a transformed workspace and new destination for both LABS members and the public,” Dotan Weiner, Chief Operating Officer of LABS, said
“With this project, we’ve studied and implemented modernised workspace solutions and pushed the boundaries to bring design, wellness and safety to the forefront. The result is a delicate transformation of an iconic building that will define how people live and work.”
LABS’ group company LabTech acquired Victoria House in 2019 with a vision to transform the building into an iconic workplace. The property represents LABS’ tenth building in London.
Across its workplaces LABS provides fully flexible memberships so that entrepreneurs and companies can choose what works best for their needs. Whether just a desk to roam or a private office for a workforce to thrive, there is the option to customise every space, from fit out to servicing. Victoria House roaming memberships start from £199 per month, with £25 Day passes also available.
