With Spring in the air, there’s never been a better time to get out and about once the clock strikes lunchtime. And in the NW1 neighbourhood, you’re spoilt for choice from destination dining to authentic street food to delicious vegan dishes. Here are our picks of the many options available…
Camden Market Hawley Wharf
Head to Hawley Wharf for a Cantonese meat feast, a film-inspired pizza, a tasty Jolof or a steakhouse reimagined
Taking meat and rice to another level, this eatery takes inspiration from markets in Hong Kong. Some 9000 kilometres away, Three Uncles’ owners have lovingly recreated some Cantonese specialities including traditionally made Siu Mei or roasted meats with roasted duck, crispy pork and Hainan chicken all on the menu.
Tarantino fans should head straight to this pizzeria inspired by the 90s film starring Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette. Enjoy a cold margarita with your massive margarita while sitting on the handmade upcycled furniture or cosy up in the booth seating plus a disco ball for the extra wow factor.
Whether meat-eater, veggie or vegan, there are delicious offerings aplenty at this West African food outlet. Grab a burrito or a rice bowl and for heat seekers, there’s the added option of house-made hot sauce plus slashes and cocktails to cool things down.
Subverting the idea of a traditional American steakhouse, the menu here combines the best of sustainable British beef with a Middle Eastern twist. Central to the fine dining experience here is the idea that food connects people with every dish having a story to tell.
Stables Market
The Stables offers a plethora of food options from poke bowls to cheese a-go-go to falafel
Poké is one food concept to really come into its own in the last few years. As well as the classic options of salmon and tuna, there are also steak and chicken poké bowls to choose from, as well as the new Poké Bao or Miso Broth pots for a healthy, appetising approach to mealtimes.
As the name suggests, one for fans of fromage. This is the flagship restaurant where all dishes contain at least one British cheese and also include locally-sourced ingredients. Small producer natural wines, craft beers, spirits or cocktails provide the perfect accompaniment.
Think you know falafel? This vegan classic, made from 100% chickpeas popped in a pitta or enjoyed in a salad, lives up to its name by being out of this world and certainly the best falafel north of the river
Camden Lock
Take a trip around Camden Lock for an F1 star-supported burger, a burrito with a difference
Look no further for an ethical, sustainable option. This plant-based business, serving vegan burgers, hot dogs and sides is backed by none other than Formula One star Lewis Hamilton
The roast dinner is turned on its head for this concept, cleverly repurposing all the ingredients from everyone’s favourite Sunday staple into wrap form, creating an on-the-go option for every day of the week.
Camden Market Buck Street
Head on down to Buck Street for vegan treats
Responsible for bringing vegan food to the mainstream, this 100% plant-based menu features dishes such as no-chicken katsu bowls, no meat meatballs and beetroot bun chick’n burger.
However you spend your lunchtime, there’s no excuse for a sad sandwich al desk ever again in Camden’s burgeoning food mecca.
